TECH TIP TUESDAY - CREATE A NEW GOOGLE DOC...

DID YOU KNOW you can create a NEW Google Slide, Doc, Sheet, or Form simply by typing .new in the omnibox of your browser? HOW COOL IS THAT!? I follow a ton of teachers on Instagram who post great resources and ideas. Instagram can actually be a great Personal Learning Network, I'm constantly amazed by the amazing ideas many teachers share.

I recently came across @friEdTechnology - friEdTechnology is "an Education Technology Professional Learning / Development organization dedicated to providing fun, useful, and engaging professional development". Their website is great, but their Instagram account is an AWESOME way to get a quick tech tip that you are sure to be able to use! In this one Instagram post not only did I learn a super easy way to create new Google Docs, but I also learned what an omnibox is! If you are on Instagram I highly recommend @friEdTechnology - I do not think you'll be disappointed.

FRIDAY FAVORITES - February 2018

1. 6 Ed Tech Tools to Try in 2018 [Cult of Pedagogy]
Cult of Pedagogy is one of my absolute favorite educational blogs! As she has done every year since 2015, she has spotlighted six of the tools she added to this year’s Teacher's Guide to Tech [which I highly recommend checking out!]. They are not all new tools, but each one could make a real difference in the way your students learn or the things they produce.

2. Google URL Tricks [Learning in Hand]
By now we all know the power of being able to share Google Documents, Sheets, Slides, and Drawings, but did you know you can do some pretty cool tricks by simply replacing /edit in the share URL. Learning in Hand shows how you can transform a shareable link into a preview, copy, template, or pdf link! This is one of my favorite tech tips!

3. Tech Tools for Student Engagement - [Thomas Murray]
If you are looking for a new tech tool for student engagement, then check out this crowd sourced list of tech tools from a Future of Education Technology Conference session earlier this year, facilitated by Thomas Murray. This list is full of great resources and organized in an easy to use manner!

4. 2018 Winter Olympics HyperDoc [Nadine Gilkison and Jill Vick]
Finally, I love this hyperdoc lesson created by Nadine Gilkison and Jill Vick that combines the Winter Olympics with hands-on STEM challenges! It was designed with 3rd graders in mind, but could easily be adapted for many grades!

FRIDAY FAVORITES ARE BACK!

As part of a personal goal of keeping better track of some of the amazing resources I come across on a daily basis and to share these great resources with a larger community - I have decoded to bring Friday Favorites back for 2018! Friday Favorites will be a quick post on the first Friday of each month sharing a few awesome resources. Friday Favorites will explore anything from technology integration and STEM education to professional development and digital mindfulness and well being.

"The most compelling topics among educators who embrace technology to transform teaching and learning are not about the tech at all, but about the students. This article describes the hottest trends in ed tech for 2018".

"Just like the adults around them, our students may be looking at the new year as an opportunity for renewal, a time to assess their life and consider how they might want to improve it...since the topic of new year’s resolutions is likely to come up anyway, why not make a lesson out of it? Here’s a step-by-step plan you can use to help your students make the kinds of resolutions that could have a significant impact on their quality of life".

This activity will not only walk you through the steps to creating a self care plan but also gives you the experience of working through a HyperDoc [a great tool for self-paced learning], "This #HyperDoc was created by www.kellyhilton.org and inspired by professional development created by Elise Greenway and presented by Julie Twislemann. For more HyperDocs, check out www.hyperdocs.co

"Educational leaders need a unique skill set to make sure that students get what they need. The prevalence of technology inside and outside the classroom, as well as the increased accountability for student achievement, have drastically changed the educational landscape." This article explores the "skills that tomorrow’s educational leaders will need to keep up".
