US TECH TOOL WORKSHOP- Prezi, Piktochart, and Wix

Monday the US girls were offered a variety of workshops during Academic Flex. Patty Carver and I offered two 45 minute sessions to introduce the girls to three cool technology tools. We demonstrated Piktochart, Wix, and Prezi and then gave the girls time to explore these great tools.

Below is a brief description of each tool we introduced and the workshop handout we prepared for the girls.

Piktochart is an information graphic creation tool. Information graphics or infographics are visual representations of information and data. I have posted a great example of an infographic on the dashboard of the Technology Information course page.

Wix is a free website creation tool. This could be another new and exciting way to present information to your students. Publishing your site would allow you to be able to share the information with your students and give them a resource to access from anywhere.

Prezi is a web-based presentation application and storytelling tool that uses a single canvas instead of traditional slides – if you are looking to jazz up your presentations or present material in a different way this could be a great solution.

Any of of these tools could be used to rethink the way you assess your students. Rather than assigning a PowerPoint presentation, printed handout, or printed brochure, why not think about letting them explore a new tool. Better yet, with the right project structure and clear student expectations, you could let the students use the tool of their choosing.
